Let the adventures begin...
One of Roanoke’s largest parks, Fallon Park is home to one of the city’s two outdoor pools and the region’s only all-season Cyclocross course. The Tinker Creek Greenway extends through Fallon Park, making it easily accessible by bike or on foot. Roanoke Parks and Recreation hosts several recreational programs at Fallon Park each year, including swimming lessons and the SeptemberCross cyclocross race series.
The outdoor swimming facility at Fallon Park has an Olympic-sized 360,000-gallon pool. Lanes range from three to five feet deep and each pool has a 12-foot diving well. Diving boards and dual water slides are available for pool users who know how to swim. The Fallon Park public pool area also includes a concession stand and picnic shelter area. Deck chairs and chaise lounges are available for relaxing poolside. The Fallon Park Pool is operated by Virginia Gators, Inc. Please contact Doug Fonder at 540-904-2666 for more information.
The City of Roanoke announces that Fallon Park and Washington Park public pools will be closed for the 2020 summer season (May-August). This decision was based on ongoing limitations associated with COVID-19, as well as fiscal constraints. City pools are operated in partnership with Virginia Gators, Inc. (Fallon Park Pool) and the Kirk Family YMCA (Washington Park Pool). Maintenance and repairs, which are the City’s responsibility, will continue to ensure pools remain in working condition.
The proposed FY2020-2021 budget also recommends pools remain closed for next season due to fiscal constraints. The City has been approached by various groups and citizens who proposed the possibility of fundraising to open Fallon Park and Washington Park pools in Summer 2021. These discussions are ongoing and the City will keep the community apprised of any changes. We thank you for your patience as we continue to try and keep our community healthy and safe.
Each year, Roanoke’s Cyclocross course brings hundreds of riders from across the region for events such as GO Cross and SeptemberCross. The course features barriers, run-ups, sand pits, grass and single track riding.
