Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) acts in an advisory capacity to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the City Manager and the City Council in matters related to parks and recreation to include: i) long-range master planning for parks and recreation, ii) planning and programming of individual parks and facilities, except that the Board shall not direct operations of the Department, iii) advocating for maximum use and benefit of publicly owned property and facilities for parks and recreation use, iv) review and recommend on parks and recreation policies as requested by the Director, City Manager, and/or City Council, v) review and recommend on parks and recreation rules, regulations, policies, practices, and feed and any modifications thereof, as requested by the Director, City Manager, and/or City Council, vi) review the Directors operating and capital budget proposal as presented by the Director prior to its presentation to the City Manger. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Advisory Board may solicit public input or comment on the same. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shall make recommendations to City Council as requested by City Council or determined by the City Manager and in accordance with the stated purpose and responsibilities of the Board.

At this time, PRAB meets on the third Tuesday of each month in Room 308 of the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building (unless otherwise indicated). For additional information, please contact the Administrative Office at 540-853-2236.

Mill Mountain Advisory Board

The Mill Mountain Advisory Board (MMAB) is a Council-appointed board which acts in an advisory capacity to advise City Council regarding: i) appropriate maintenance and improvements of Mill Mountain Park; ii) conservation, preservation, or development proposals that may be presented to city council regarding the conservation easement property that may be permitted thereon pursuant to the terms of the conservation easement; iii) amendments that may be proposed to be made to the conservation easement that are presented to council; and iv) proposed development that may be presented to city council within the excluded property unless city council creates an ad hoc committee as provided in section 24-110(c) of this article.

At this time, MMAB meets virtually on the second Wednesday of each odd month in the Mill Mountain Discovery Center (unless otherwise indicated). For additional information, please contact the Administrative Office at 540-853-2236.

 

Youth Athletics Review Board

The Youth Athletics Review Board (YARB) is a Council-appointed review board with the purpose and responsibility to foster cooperative relationships with private sector organizations to enhance participation in the city’s youth team sports, to establish policies, bylaws and a code of ethics to promote participation in youth sports and to act as a liaison to city council on all matters concerning youth team sports.

Beginning January 2022, meetings will be held monthly on the second Thursday of the month (unless otherwise indicated). Meeting notices and agenda will be delivered to members in sufficient time for them to have been received by each member at least five (5) working days prior to the meeting.
