Summer Camps in Roanoke

Roanoke Parks and Recreation hosts summer camps between June and August each year. The dates vary based on the Roanoke City Schools calendar. Due to COVID-19, our camp schedules and offerings have changed. Click below for the latest information about camps for Summer 2021.

2021 Camps

Outdoor Exploration Camp

MONDAY-FRIDAY| 8:30 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.

JUNE 21-25, JULY 12-16, AUGUST 9-13

Explore the outdoors through hands-on nature activities and fun-filled outdoor recreation. Your child’s week will be split between nature activities like wilderness survival classes, orienteering, GPS skills, and other nature lessons AND outdoor recreation like hiking, tubing and indoor rock climbing. We will explore several local parks and meet at a different location each day.

Future Stars Football Camp

(Ages 6-15) Join Coach Alan Fiddler of Patrick Henry High School, along with is staff and players, for two fun-filled evenings of football! Participants will learn proper football techniques and how to improve speed, passing, catching, and agility.

Imagination Station Camp


(Ages 6-12) Set imagination in motion with learning, discovery, and adventure! Each day, campers will explore different themes through hands-on activities, games, field trips, and more. This action-packed, five-day camp is guaranteed to stretch and strengthen any imagination.

Art Exploration Camp

(Ages 6-12) Journey through the worlds of visual and performing arts! During the morning, creativity will run wild while exploring beyond the typical paintbrush. After lunch, it’s Showtime! Improve games, storytelling, and live acting will allow campers to strut their stuff.

Summer P.L.A.Y. Full-Day Camp

(K-5th Grade only; must have completed Kindergarten) Join us for a summer packed full of activities! With convenient weekly sessions at three locations, this all-day version of our After-School P.L.A.Y. program includes sports and games, speakers/instructors, and arts and crafts, all with a focus on overall youth development. Qualified, trained, and experienced counselors will initiate fun and challenging activities for all participants.

Registration for this camp will open on June 15 and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
