Summer Camps in Roanoke
Roanoke Parks and Recreation hosts all-day and half-day summer camps between June and August each year. The dates vary based on the Roanoke City Schools calendar. Check back in April 2020 for updated camp information.
Outdoor Exploration Camp
MONDAY-FRIDAY| 8:30 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.
JUNE 8-12 and JULY 13-17
Explore the outdoors through hands-on nature activities and fun-filled outdoor recreation. Your child’s week will be split between nature activities like wilderness survival classes, orienteering, GPS skills, and other nature lessons AND outdoor recreation like hiking, caving, water sports (canoeing, kayaking, tubing or Stand Up Paddle Boarding) and indoor rock climbing. We will meet at Mill Mountain Discovery Center and travel each day to a new adventure.
Challenger British Camp
MONDAY-FRIDAY| JULY 15-19
The number one soccer camp comes back to Roanoke in 2019 with an opportunity to learn from Challenger’s team of international experts as they guide your budding soccer stars through all aspects of soccer while promoting good practice in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership. Every camper receives a soccer ball, camp T-shirt, personalized evaluation, giant poster, and a 12-month access code to thechallengerway.com–Challenger Sports coaching drills and skills database.
Adult Art Camp
MONDAY-THURSDAY| JULY 15-18
Reminisce about your childhood camps while creating unique arts and crafts during this Adult Art Camp. Each evening, explore new art materials that will get you back in touch with your creative side. At the end of the four-night camp, participants will leave with four, one-of-a-kind works of art. This camp is for all skill levels. No experience necessary. All supplies are included in the registration fee.
Art Exploration Camp
MONDAY-FRIDAY | JULY 29-AUG 2
(Ages 6-12) During this half-day camp, participants will have the opportunity to explore beyond the typical paint brush. Creativity will run wild when we incorporate fun games and experimentation into the art making process. Each student will explore his or her own self-expression while creating one-of-a-kind works of art. All supplies included. The camp will meet from 9 AM to 1 PM.
(K-5th Grade only; must have completed Kindergarten) Join us for a summer packed full of activities! With convenient weekly sessions at two locations, these all-day and half-day versions of our After-School P.L.A.Y. program include sports and games, speakers/instructors, arts and crafts, and various fields trips, all with a focus on overall youth development. Qualified, trained, and experienced counselors will initiate fun and challenging activities for all participants.
Application forms and registration packets are available at the Main Office at 215 Church Avenue, Room 303, and at Preston and Eureka recreation centers during the after-school program. Participants can register weekly or for the entire summer.
*Special activities will be provided during the morning hours that will not be available in the afternoon program.
*Breakfast and lunch provided to full-day program, and snacks are provided to all programs.
