Roanoke Parks and Recreation hosts a wide variety of youth and family-friendly events throughout the summer, including multiple summer camp programs! Kids to Parks Day is celebrated annually in May, and Independence Day is recognized with a free Festival & Fireworks at River’s Edge Park. 🤸‍♀️ 2026 All-Day Summer P.L.A.Y. Camp

All-Day Summer P.L.A.Y. Camp

Ages 5-11 (Grades K-5) | MON-FRI | 7:30 AM TO 6:00 PM

Join us for a summer packed full of activities! With convenient weekly sessions at three locations, this summer all-day version of our After School P.L.A.Y. program includes sports and games, speakers/instructors, arts and crafts, and various field trips, all with a focus on overall youth development. Qualified, trained, and experienced staff will initiate fun and interactive activities for all participants.

June 15–July 31, 2026
$150/week
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (excluding holidays)
Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack provided
Participants can register weekly, or for the entire summer.
Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

🚲 2026 Fundamentals of Mountain Biking Camp

Fundamentals of Mountain Biking Camp

Ages 8-10 | MONDAY-FRIDAY | 8:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.

We’ve partnered with Roanoke Star Cycling to offer a fast-paced, adventure-filled week for campers who love exploring the outdoors on their bikes. Roanoke is known as the Mountain Biking Capital of the East, with more than 400 miles of rideable trails, making it the perfect place to introduce young riders to the incredible terrain our region has to offer. Mountain biking provides an exciting way to experience nature while allowing campers to travel farther and faster than on foot.

Each day begins with warm-up activities followed by group rides to locations throughout the region. Campers will spend roughly half the day mountain biking and the other half participating in traditional outdoor camp activities such as tubing, swimming, environmental education, and more.

This camp is designed as an introduction to mountain biking for riders interested in learning the basics. Throughout the week, campers will develop beginner to early-intermediate skills, including cornering on tighter trails, shifting at appropriate times, climbing and descending hills, navigating obstacles, practicing proper trail etiquette, performing basic bike maintenance, and understanding general ride safety. Riders will start on greenways, progress to gravel trails, and advance to easy-to-intermediate single-track trails as the week continues.

For safety reasons, participants should already feel comfortable riding on paved surfaces before enrolling. Campers should be able to balance confidently, maintain steady momentum, brake properly, and ride without frequent stops. Bikes and helmets can be provided for campers who do not have trail-capable gear.

A pre-camp meeting and skills assessment will be held two weeks before camp on May 28 at 6:00 p.m., allowing campers and families to meet camp counselors and ensure proper readiness.

Get outside this summer with Roanoke Parks and Recreation Outdoor Exploration Camp! This camp is designed to keep your child engaged outside with nature activities from wilderness survival, nature crafts, and river ecology to outdoor recreation like hiking, ropes course, Zipline, caving, climbing, water sports (canoeing, kayaking, tubing or Stand Up Paddle Boarding), archery, slackline, rock climbing, and so much more! We will meet at Fishburn Park and travel each day to a new adventure.

Cost: $295 per week

Get outside this summer with Roanoke Parks and Recreation Big Adventure Camp! We’ve created a summer camp experience geared toward different, more challenging excursion for older youth. While similar to Outdoor Exploration Camp, we’ll be exploring different venues and building various adventure skills for a new, engaging experience. Returning campers and first time participants are welcome! Our activities may include hiking, caving, water sports (canoeing, kayaking, tubing, or Stand Up Paddleboarding), rope course, archery, zipline, slackline, and rock climbing. Big Adventure Camp will meet at Fishburn Park and travel to a new adventure each day.
