Wednesday Night Disco Mountain Bike Race Series LogoThe Wednesday Night Disco Race is an award-winning mountain bike race series that will make you want to dance on your pedals! Racing begins with registration at the Discovery Center in Mill Mountain Park. Parking is available at the Discovery Center and beside the Roanoke Star. Riders boogie on down the mountain to the start at the Riverland Road Parking Lot and race the trails back up again to finish at the Mill Mountain Discovery Center. The Wednesday Night Disco Mountain Bike Race Series is novice rider-friendly while also providing a local weeknight training ground for more experienced mountain bikers. Invite family and friends to cheer you on and enjoy live music as well as a food truck during and after the race.

REGISTRATION:

Registration will take place at the Discovery Center and riders are required to register and/or check in with registration if they completed online registration. Registration opens at 4:30 p.m. and closes at the Discovery Center at 5:45 p.m. and races start promptly at 6 p.m. at the Riverland Road Parking Lot. Each race is $10.00, or you can register for the entire three-race series for $25.00.

Overall winners: Brian Frazier (1:28:38 for all three races), and Anna Sortore (1:51:37 for all three races). The winners were awarded a $100 gift certificate, courtesy of our sponsor, Just the Right Gear!

RACE CATEGORIES:

Male and Female categories are as follows. Participants as young as 10 years old can race in the Wednesday Night Disco.

 

  • Jive Turkeys: Beginner/Novice. Distance = 5 miles
  • Freaky-deakys: Single-Speed. Distance = 5 miles
  • Disco Divas: Sport. Distance =  5 miles
  • Funkadelics: Elite/Expert Pro. Distance = 5 miles
  • Cool Cats: Juniors Ages 10-16. Distance = 5 miles

Race Rules:

  • Prizes are awarded to top three racers in each category and gender. Racers must have two race finishes in a given category to be eligible for series awards. Overall male and female awards are given to the best overall times or finishers of the expert category. 
  • Helmets are required.
  • Your race bib numbers must be kept for the entire series.
  • Races will run rain or shine. The mountain trails drain well. Unless severe weather is happening within 15 minutes of race start, races will go on as planned.

Wednesday Night Disco Course Description

The course starts at the Riverland Road parking lot at the base of the mountain. Cruise up the gravel road and turn on Woodthrush. Turn right onto Sidewinder, turn right on to the JB Fishburn Parkway and cross the street. Head down Monument trail. At the bottom, turn left on the Mill Mountain Greenway. Make a right on Big Sunny trail. Bear to the left at the fork onto Riser trail. At the top of Riser, make a left on Ridgeline trail and head to the finish line for pizza, beer, and live music!
