Games will begin the Week of June 26th.
Invented in the United States, kickball is a fun team sport that is often played by youth on the school playground. But why can’t the young at heart also enjoy this beloved sport? Roanoke’s popular Adult Co-Ed Kickball League runs each year between June and September.
What is kickball again?
Originally called “kick baseball,” kickball was said to have been created by Nicholas Seuss, a Recreation Supervisor for Cincinnati’s Parks and Recreation team, around 1917. Kickball is typically played outdoors on a softball diamond with an inflated rubber ball. The game uses three bases, a pitcher’s mound and a home plate.
The co-ed league costs $175 per team for the entire season. A maximum of 11 players are on the field at one time. All players must be 18 years old or older as of July 1 of the current season. Each team must have a minimum of four females and four males to start a game. There is a maximum of 25 players per team and also a suggested minimum of 15 players per team. Teams are guaranteed to play nine games, including eight regular season games and one post-season tournament game.
Roanoke Parks and Recreation offers two Adult Kickball Leagues: Lower and Upper. The lower leagues are more laid-back, whereas the upper league is more competitive and designed for experienced teams.
