We’ve partnered with Roanoke Star City Cycling to offer a fast-paced, adventure-filled week for campers who love exploring the outdoors on their bikes. Roanoke is known as the Mountain Biking Capital of the East, with more than 400 miles of rideable trails, making it the perfect place to introduce young riders to the incredible terrain our region has to offer. Mountain biking provides an exciting way to experience nature while allowing campers to travel farther and faster than on foot.
Each day begins with warm-up activities followed by group rides to locations throughout the region. Campers will spend roughly half the day mountain biking and the other half participating in traditional outdoor camp activities such as tubing, swimming, environmental education, and more.
This camp is designed as an introduction to mountain biking for riders interested in learning the basics. Throughout the week, campers will develop beginner to early-intermediate skills, including cornering on tighter trails, shifting at appropriate times, climbing and descending hills, navigating obstacles, practicing proper trail etiquette, performing basic bike maintenance, and understanding general ride safety. Riders will start on greenways, progress to gravel trails, and advance to easy-to-intermediate single-track trails as the week continues.
For safety reasons, participants should already feel comfortable riding on paved surfaces before enrolling. Campers should be able to balance confidently, maintain steady momentum, brake properly, and ride without frequent stops. Bikes and helmets can be provided for campers who do not have trail-capable gear.
