Day Trip: Romeo & Juliet Matinee Shakespeare Center & Lunch
Where better to see an iconic Shakespeare tale than in the indoor theatre at the world’s first re-creation of the original Blackfriars Shakespeare Playhouse: the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA. Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s most iconic story of young love – reckless, tender, and all-consuming. It’s a rush of poetry and passion, filled with stolen moments, whispered vows, and the raw belief that love can change everything. Shakespeare’s Blackfriars Playhouse was originally a 13th-century monastery, then in 1596, it was converted into a Playhouse. Shakespeare’s company began performing there in 1608. The original Blackfriars Playhouse burned in the 1666 Great Fire of London. Staunton’s American Shakespeare Center was built in 2001 at a total construction cost of $3.7 million. We will take a tour of the Theater and learn more about its history before the performance.
Before the show, we will have lunch at the Pampered Palate Cafe restaurant nearby. Opened in 1979, it has been a family-owned sandwich shop serving up creative and staple soups, salad,s and sandwiches. Lunch will be at your own expense.

PRICE PER PERSON: The full amount is due when the reservation is made. Minimum 9 people.
PRICE INCLUDES: Round-trip park and recreation transit van transportation, admission ticket to the show, and a tour host. Lunch is at your expense.
DEPARTURE TIME AND LOCATIONS: The van will depart at 10:00 AM, City of Roanoke Public Works Bldg. 1802 Courtland Rd, NE. Return time to Roanoke is around 6:30 PM
CANCELLATION POLICY: The trip is based on a minimum number of paid participants by the posted registration date. Should we cancel the trip; a full refund will be given. If you cancel before the registration date, a full refund will be issued. After the registration date, there will be 50% service fee collected.
