🚐 Sandstone Falls
Join us on Sunday, August 13, 2023, as we travel to Sandstone Falls Visitor Center and to Sandstone Falls in the New River Gorge National Park. The largest waterfall on the New River, Sandstone Falls spans the river where it is 1500 feet wide. Divided by a series of islands, the river drops 10 to 25 feet. There is a .25 mile boardwalk that we can walk out on for better viewing.
We will visit the downtown area of Hinton, WV. The remarkable Victorian-era railroad town of Hinton is enveloped by the rolling hills of southern West Virginia. Natural beauty abounds in this charming community, as it is the gateway to the New River Gorge National River, and in close proximity with both Bluestone State Park and Pipestem Resort State Park.
We will visit the John Henry Statue and Great Bend Tunnel in Talcott, WV.
Revisit the site where John Henry, the Steel Drivin’ Man, beat the steam drill in the famous contest that took place right at Great Bend Tunnel. Check out John Henry and the Great Bend Tunnel here.
PRICE PER PERSON: $59. Full amount is due when reservation is made.
PRICE INCLUDES: Roundtrip transportation on Roanoke Parks & Rec bus/van, tours of the listed attractions and a tour host.
DEPARTURE TIMES AND LOCATIONS: The Parks and Rec vehicle will depart at 7:00 a.m. from Bonsack Walmart, Roanoke; and then from View Mall (between Belk and I-581), at 7:20 a.m. The next pickup is at 7:35 a.m. from Food Lion, exit 118, Salem, VA. There will be a pickup at Hardee’s, exit 118, Christiansburg, at 7:55 a.m.
CANCELLATION POLICY: The trip is based on a minimum amount of paid participants by August 1, 2023. If we cancel the trip, a full refund will be given. If you cancel before August 1, 2023, a refund less $25 service fee will be awarded. After August 1, there will be no refunds.
