PLAY Roanoke is currently working on a new Master Plan. This past March, the department held four community meetings to gather citizen input regarding the future of parks and recreation in our city. You can see some of the visual feedback here!
This valuable input will help us determine the City’s vision for parks, greenways, and other facilities. At this time, our consultant is taking all of the feedback from the community, partners, and internal staff to create what will be the City of Roanoke’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan: 2018 Edition.
On Tuesday, May 28, the latest draft of the Master Plan was released. Click here to read the draft.
A public comment hearing for this draft, hosted by the Department of Planning, Building, and Development, was held on Monday, July 8. This hearing allowed citizens the opportunity to provide comments on the draft plan.
On Monday, July 15, the plan was presented to City Council. After public comment, Council asked Parks and Recreation to make a few amendments to the plan and present it to them on August 5 for possible adoption.
How Did We Gather Input?
- We held four community input meetings around the City in March to hear what residents thought we were doing well and what we could improve upon.
- We had a community input form on the website from March until October for citizens to continue to provide feedback.
- In May, stat-valid surveys were mailed out to randomly selected residents. They contained a stamped return envelope to make the process as simple as possible.
- At the same time the surveys were mailed, an online survey was made available on this website for everyone to complete.
