Join us on Saturday, May 20, 2023, as we travel by bus and train to Lynchburg, VA. We will pick passengers up at various locations and take them to the train boarding platform in Roanoke. We will board the Amtrak train for our scenic excursion. We will arrive at the historic train station in Lynchburg, VA. The bus will then take us to the arboretum to view the beautiful roses in historic City Cemetery. We also visit the Anne Spencer Gardens. Lunch will be on your own in the downtown Lynchburg area. We will tour the Craddock Terry Hotel (a former shoe company that is now a Marriott Hotel). The facility is filled with shoe memorabilia and sits along the James River. We will tour the 1913 Virginian Hotel. This Beaux-Arts style building is now a Hilton property. You will enjoy seeing the arched windows, the ornate ballroom with 30-foot barrel-vaulted ceilings and carved skylights, along with the grand marble stairs with wrought iron railings. We will visit the Lynchburg Museum, in the historic former courthouse. There will be a special exhibit on Women’s Suffrage. You will also be able to visit the 1924 Monument Terrace. We will also visit The Bluff Walk – a pedestrian walkway providing views of The James River and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
