Spring Rose Train to the Hill City
Join us on Saturday, May 20, 2023, as we travel by bus and train to Lynchburg, VA. We will pick passengers up at various locations and take them to the train boarding platform in Roanoke. We will board the Amtrak train for our scenic excursion. We will arrive at the historic train station in Lynchburg, VA. The bus will then take us to the arboretum to view the beautiful roses in historic City Cemetery. We also visit the Anne Spencer Gardens. Lunch will be on your own in the downtown Lynchburg area. We will tour the Craddock Terry Hotel (a former shoe company that is now a Marriott Hotel). The facility is filled with shoe memorabilia and sits along the James River. We will tour the 1913 Virginian Hotel. This Beaux-Arts style building is now a Hilton property. You will enjoy seeing the arched windows, the ornate ballroom with 30-foot barrel-vaulted ceilings and carved skylights, along with the grand marble stairs with wrought iron railings. We will visit the Lynchburg Museum, in the historic former courthouse. There will be a special exhibit on Women’s Suffrage. You will also be able to visit the 1924 Monument Terrace. We will also visit The Bluff Walk – a pedestrian walkway providing views of The James River and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
PRICE PER PERSON: $60 Full amount is due when reservation is made.
PRICE INCLUDES: Roundtrip transportation, ticket to ride Amtrak train from Roanoke to Lynchburg, sightseeing tour of Lynchburg, Roanoke Parks and Rec van/bus transportation from Lynchburg back to your boarding location, bus transportation in and around Lynchburg, and a tour host.
DEPARTURE TIMES AND LOCATIONS: The Roanoke Parks and Recreation bus/van will depart at 7:25 a.m. from Valley View Mall, Roanoke, VA (meet in the overflow parking area which faces I-581 and is in front of the Belk store.
CANCELLATION POLICY: The trip is based on a minimum number of paid participants by May 7, 2023. If we cancel the trip, a full refund will be given. If you cancel before May 7, a refund less $35 will be given. After May 7, there will be no refunds.
