Landscape Management

The Landscape Management section is responsible for all landscape maintenance and mowing in City parks and along portions of the greenways.  They are divided in to three units: Central City, Landscape Maintenance, and Turf Maintenance.

The Central City crew is comprised of three full-time staff members who maintain everything in the downtown parks, plazas, green spaces and around municipally owned buildings.  They perform all the typical landscape maintenance tasks, such as weeding, watering, pruning, insect and disease control and mulching.  They are also responsible for all mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing and over-seeding the turf areas as well as leaf mulching in the fall.  The Central City area is a bit different in that this same crew also does all the trash and debris removal, keeps the Mutt-Mitt stations filled and makes sure the parks are clean and ready for, and cleaned after, the numerous events that take place in the downtown parks.  They are also responsible for hanging and maintaining the hanging baskets, planting and renovating landscapes and adding color through the use of annuals and perennials.

The Landscape Maintenance crew is comprised of three full-time staff members who maintain the landscapes in all parks and green spaces and along the greenways throughout the City in over 100 different locations.  They are also responsible for the maintenance of the grounds of Mountain View (the former Fishburn Mansion) which includes the Fishburn Rose Garden.  Just as the Central City crew, they perform all the typical landscape maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, pruning, insect and disease control and mulching.  At Mountain View they are also responsible for the mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing and over-seeding of the turf areas and leaf mulching in the fall.  In addition, they install new and renovate old landscapes throughout the City and add color and interest through the use of annuals, perennials and ornamental grasses.

The Turf Maintenance crew is comprised of six full time and seven seasonal staff members that have responsibility for mowing and trimming the grass in all City parks and properties in 63 different locations.  They also do weed control along curbs, bollards, fences, sidewalks, etc. everywhere they mow.  Prior to every mowing, they must pick up all trash and debris, and then blow off and clean up everything before moving to the next site.  They also do all the leaf mulching in these same areas in the fall.  When not mowing grass or mulching leaves they remove suckers and low-hanging limbs from trees that are hazards when mowing, clean fence lines, and do yearly mowing and cleaning of steep hillsides.  They also mow all the bench cuts along the river twice a year.

All three Landscape Management crews assist with numerous other tasks as needed, such as storm clean-up and special event set-ups.  They are also part of the team of snowfighters that are responsible for snow and ice removal on the south side of the City.
