Volunteer Trail Work Days at Mill Mountain

Trail Work Days, Sponsored by Roanoke Parks and Recreation:finishing up hotel armoring

(18+, 14+ with an adult) Join fellow trail enthusiasts—hikers, bikers, and equestrians—to maintain and build new trail at Mill Mountain. These workdays will be administered by Roanoke Parks and Recreation and will work on maintenance projects as well as new construction. Roanoke Parks and Recreation will provide the tools, just show up with sturdy shoes, water, work gloves, and some excitement to create and maintain the trails in our valley. All workdays meet at the Discovery Center at the designated start time below.

Do you have availability on Thursday afternoons? A new crew is forming for Dirty Thursdays. Contact Renee at 540-853-5867 if you are interested. This crew will work on maintenance projects at Fishburn Park, Mill Mountain, and Carvins Cove starting January 14.

Pathfinders for Greenways Weekend Crew:

Take some time to give back to the trail systems that you use on City Parks this year. Pathfinders for Greenways will be offering trail work out at Carvins Cove on the dates below starting at 9:00am. Meet at the Bennett Springs Parking Lot with eye protection, sturdy shoes, and gloves. Roanoke IMBA will be providing snacks and drinks for the volunteers. Let Pathfinders know if you are able to make the work day by e-mailing volunteers@greenways.org or call Brian Batteiger at 540-467-1629. If they do not hear from at least 2 people by the night before, they will cancel the work day. Work will take place on the new Rock N Roll trail that will link Arrowhead to Schoolhouse.

The Roanoke International Mountain Biking Association (RIMBA) is in the planning phase of several new trails on Mill Mountain. If you are interested in working on these trails, please contact Renee Powers, Outdoor Recreation Supervisor for Trails and Trail Programming at renee.powers@roanokeva.gov and she will get you in touch with a crew leader.
