Roanoke Parks and Recreation is proud to partner and offer several Trail Events and Races throughout the year. Check out what we have going on below!
Roanoke 7 Summits, September 25-November 6, 2014
(All Ages) The Roanoke 7 Summits is back with new summits and new challenges. This is a unique event that combines our regions premier trails with an active living awareness program. The “Roanoke 7 Summits” is a fun play-off of the international mountaineering challenge of climbing each of the seven continents highest mountains. By taking this challenge you’ll hike to the summit of seven of the Roanoke Region’s top mountain summits in a seven week span. It demands a great attitude, determination, exploration, and pushing yourself to new levels.
Each summit has multiple group hike dates through City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation. These will be formally guided hikes that are not included in the Roanoke 7 Summits registration fee, but for only $6 per hike, are a great chance to get out there with an experienced hiker, meet hiking buddies, and enjoy the energy of the group effort to get to each summit. Of course, if you prefer, you can also do each hike on your own.
Your official registration includes a t-shirt, consistent e-mail and blog posts with status updates, hiking routes, and extra motivation. And if you’re into free gear, all participants are entered into random drawings to win free giveaways throughout the 7 weeks.
Be a Summiteer and join the Roanoke 7 Summits! Check out www.roanoke7summits.com for more details.
Meeting Dates: Program is self guided. If you choose to do the guided hikes, they are an additional $6.00 each and will be offered on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Held at Fallon Park at Virginia’s only year round cyclocross course, this challenging course includes sand, climbing, stairs, man-made barriers, paved, and traditional grass sections. Racers do as many loops as possible in a certain time on the one mile course. Cyclocross is one of the fastest growing cycling disciplines and certainly the biggest crowd pleaser, so if racing isn’t for you, grab your cowbell and come cheer everyone on!
