(18+,10+ with adult) Already own your own boating gear and looking for some cheap pool time to nail that roll? Join us at the Gator Aquatic Center for an open kayak roll session. Professional staff will be on hand to assist you and ensure water safety but no formal instruction or equipment will be provided. You must be able to swim.

Instructional Whitewater Kayak Roll Sessions
Tired of bailing your boat every time you flip? Our certified kayaking instructors are ready to help you take your skills to the next level. They will spend most of their time in the water next to you as they guide you through each step of the roll. Our low student-to-instructor ratio gives you plenty of personal attention during each lesson. Classes are held in a controlled indoor pool. All technical equipment can be provided or you can bring your own. You must be able to swim.

Love your Mother – River Clean Up, April 13th
(18+,10+ with adult) Mother Earth that is! The Roanoke River is the lifeline of the Roanoke Valley, let’s show her some love today and clean her up! Canoes, PFD’s, Trash bags, gloves will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear bright colored clothing, long pants and sturdy shoes.

Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking, May 14th

(18+, 14+ with an adult) Spend a day on the river learning fundamental whitewater kayaking skills and river safety. Our American Canoe Association (ACA) instructors will discuss paddling strokes, “reading a river,” equipment selection, and basic river rescue. This exciting beginner clinic prepares you to paddle on your own and will familiarize you with nearby river access points, outfitters, and more. All equipment, leadership, and transportation are provided. Participants must be able to swim and complete a wet exit from the kayak before heading downstream. Whitewater Kayaker

Sunset SUP at Carvins Cove, May 26th
(18+, 10+ with adult) Join us for an evening paddle to learn the basics of Stand Up Paddleboarding. We will have you up and paddling off into the sunset in no time. Equipment and leadership provided, transportation from town optional. Participants must be able to swim.

Bear Island Sea Kayaking, June 16-20th
(18+,10+ with adult) Sea kayaking among the North Carolina Outer Banks is second to none. Spend your time island hopping and camping on the beach listening to the sound of the waves crashing and the sand crabs scurrying about. Bear island is located in Hammocks Beach State Park, it is a three mile long undeveloped barrier island only accessible by boat. Join us and explore the paddling trails leading in and out of marshes around Bear and Huggins Island. Bear Island is a fantastic place for wildlife spotting including loggerhead turtles, bottlenose dolphins and white-tailed deer. Huggins Island is known for its maritime swamp forest which is globally rare and home to civil war history, lush forests and lots of migratory birds. Transportation, leadership, food while on the island (not during travel), group cooking gear and Sea Kayaks and gear provided. Participants must provide own tents and sleeping systems.
