Stand Up Paddleboarding Day Trips
Spend the day learning everything you need to know to get started in the exciting sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. “SUP”. Our American Canoe Associated (ACA) certified instructor will help you learn one on one, the proper stance for balance and control, essential paddle strokes and other techniques. Courses will be held on calm water, and no experience is necessary. Come with us to learn one of the fastest growing paddle sports in the world. All equipment, leadership and transportation are provided. Participants must be able to swim.

Paddle off into the sunset with Parks and Rec, after work at Carvins Cove. We will take weekly trips to the cove to canoe and sea kayak. After a long day at work relax and enjoy some paddling time with friends. All instruction and equipment is provided.

Roanoke Gorge After Work Whitewater, dates below
(18+, 14+ with an adult) You’ve got the whitewater kayak basics down and now want to get on the best beginner whitewater run around. Join local paddlers and City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Staff in an after work run of the Roanoke River Gorge. This section of the Roanoke River starts at the Blue Ridge Parkway bridge and winds through the scenic gorge with class 2 whitewater rapids to the end of Rutrough Road at the confluence with Back Creek. This is a great way to meet other people who want to get out and on the water, know there are knowledgeable people in the group with River Safety, as well as learn about other opportunities to further your paddling experiences through City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation. You must have your own gear for this trip. Life jackets/PFDs and helmets are required. You must be able to swim.

Chesapeake Bay-Sea Kayaking, May 22nd-25th, 2015
Historic Mathews County, VA holds one of the most productive estuaries on the bay. Beginners and experienced paddlers will explore the many treasures these western shore creeks and waterways hold. Prior to the trip, we will learn basic paddling techniques here, and you can take these skills out on the Mathews Blueway Water Trail and the bay itself. We will also visit the bay’s third oldest lighthouse, New Point Comfort, and enjoy wonderful Chesapeake Bay cuisine. All lodging, two meals per day (excluding dinners), equipment, transportation and leadership are provided.

Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking, June 13, 2015
(18+, 14+ with an adult) Spend a day on the river learning fundamental whitewater kayaking skills and river safety. Our American Canoe Association (ACA) instructors will discuss paddling strokes, “reading a river,” equipment selection, and basic river rescue. This exciting beginner clinic prepares you to paddle on your own and will familiarize you with nearby river access points, outfitters, and more!Paddling

Introduction to Kayak Surfing, June 19, 2015
(18+, 14+ with an adult) Whitewater kayaks can be surfed on a standing wave in a river as well as stood up on an eddy line. Come find out how to make the most of your playboat or kayak in this intro clinic! Participants must be able to swim, roll a kayak in moving water, and feel comfortable paddling class 2 whitewater.

Beginner Downriver SUP, June 28, 2015
(18+, 10+ with an adult) Stand Up Paddleboarding is one of the fastest growing outdoor sports on the market today. It’s a great full body workout, perfect for cross training and exploring your local waterway. Join us for an afternoon trip this summer, learning everything you need to know to get started in the exciting sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. “SUP”. Our American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructor will help you learn one on one, the proper stance for balance and control, essential paddle strokes and other techniques. All equipment, leadership and transportation are provided. Participants must be able to swim.

Philpott Lake Paddling Weekend, July18-19th, 2015
(18+, 10+ with an adult) Join us for a weekend of paddling and camping. Imagine paddling all day and relaxing by the fire at night. We will cook up some tasty food and camp on an island only accessible by boat. Group gear and boats provided. Participants must be able to swim.
